Series 60 Remote 0.4.0 Beta 1 Released
Just in time for the holidays, a new beta version of the mobile telephone software for the S60 operating system has been released. It includes, for example, support for N class smart phones from Nokia and the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.
The release comes not only with all its usual features, an extensive message admin (with an instant messaging chat window, group SMS and history view), a much improved contact manager (contacts can now be added, edited and deleted), but a file manager has also been added.
The new version keeps comprehensive statistics on users SMS behavior and allows contacts to be marked as ''favorites'', enabling chats to be started by a simple right click in the icon tray. Linux installation has been simplified and developers have prepared a RPM package for Fedora. Windows fans can now use the program with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Screenshots and a Sourceforge download are available on the project's website. A detailed list of supported mobile phones can be found here.
The authors have planned the release of a stable version in the first quarter of 2010 and are asking for feedback about bugs and suggestions for new features. They are also calling for volunteers to check the English language version for grammatical mistakes and help with translation into other languages.
