Linux Beta from Google's Chrome Browser

Dec 09, 2009

Google has released the first beta version of its Chrome browser for Linux and Mac OS for download. Until now, only an open source variation, Chromium, has been Linux compatible.

As Mark Larson from Google's Chrome Team reports in his blog, the beta is based on the code-base of release 4.0.249.30, but also brings support for HTML 5 video tagging, which failed to function in the Chromium variation with the same version number. The beta Linux version can be downloaded here.

A few days have past since Google split the Chromium branch from the official Chrome version. Chromium is now in version 4.0.260 and comes with support for bookmark synchronization.
