Opensource.com Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
Today marks the one-year anniversary of opensource.com, a Red Hat community service that examines how open source principles can and are being applied outside of software development.
"The site was created to engage communities in conversation to learn and explore how the lessons of participation and open source are applied throughout five channels: business, education, law, government and life," says Red Hat in the press release earlier today. According to a post by Jim Whitehurst, Red Hat's president and chief executive officer, in this first year, opensource.com has enjoyed contributions from more than 50 different authors, who wrote over 500 stories that were read 1.3 million times by over 500,000 different people.
"This community has helped plant the seeds, yet there is much left to do. The door is open for the open source way to bring success to non-technology companies, as well as to schools, universities, governments—to the world. I eagerly await the day the open source way becomes the rule rather than the exception. Our hope will be to provide a place where we can shine a light on the progress along the way," continued Whitehurst, in post "Reflections on 1-year of opensource.com".
More information on opensource.com's first year can be found on its website.
