Android Hero from HTC
The new Linux mobile phone from HTC eschews the usual Android interface in favor of a new and personalized one.
The HTC "people-centric" Sense interface may not only find home on Android devices, but on smartphones with Windows Mobile down the road. Customers will thereby be virtually sealed off from the operating system, a trend seeming to find increasing followers in the netbook market and making the application of Linux easier.
The HTC Hero has touch-sensitive 3.2" display with 480 x 320 resolution. Equipment includes a GPS receiver, an acceleration sensor and a 5-megapixel camera. Integrated memory is expandable over a MicroSD card.
The device is also pure touchscreen, although it is supposed to be stain-resistant due to a Teflon-coated surface. So the white model should remain as pretty as a flower for years to come. HTC VP America Jason Mackenzie thinks that the Hero should provide "a mobile experience that basically doesn't feel like you have to think, and is second nature." What carriers will come out with the Hero later this year is yet to be seen.
