UBUBTU Disables Ethernet connection when installing new drives
I started with Ubuntu Studio and after some time and shuting down and restarting at days end I could NOT connect to the Internet via Firefox or any other Browser
I Switched to Regular Ubuntu 10.10 and all went well I was quite plesed.
Then I connected a new SATA drive ( I have a gygabyte board 880)
Ubuntu had no trouble "seeing" the new drive. I could write and read from it.
BUT here is the big BUT: the Internet connection would NOT work
I tried reconfiguring the eth0 ethernet connection via its GUI windows but I found IT DOES NOT WORK 2 ethernet cards or connections eth0 and eth1 are shown with the same identification only 2 ethernet cards with the same name I could not reconfigure etehrenet connections via Ubuntu Gui.
I could see that the eth0 connection configuration changed to a totally dfferent IP , mask etc. via ifconfig -a command
I tried to reload and the same problem.
Whenever you connect a NEW hard drive Kaboom!!! No mor ethernet connection
I have since migrated to SUSE and totally abandoned Ubuntu. Lost faith in it
I am writing to you since the bug report from ubuntu I could not figure out and got tired of it
I am an avid reader of your column
Thank You
