Centos 4.6 Catches Up with Updates
Shortly after a revision of the current 5 branch of the Centos release, the Red Hat Enterprise source-based distribution has now updated the older release to version 4.6.
In doing so, CentOS follows in the footsteps of US Linux corp. Red Hat, which recently released version 4.6 itself. In what is the normal procedure for older versions, the release contains updated packages for standard components and a number of bugfixes. Centos includes Samba 3.0.25b, an update of the server that removes various vulnerabilities. The developers have introduced a new version of Yum as the installation of the Yum Metadata Parser goes to show. The new Yum offers performance boosts without introducing new controls. The release notes have a full list of changes.
Downloads of the current 4.6 version are available for the i386 and x86 64 bit platforms. Versions for IA64, Alpha and IBM’s S390 are also available. The developers are still working on server images for i386 and x86 64 bit architectures.
