Debian Port for Eee PC

Nov 12, 2007

Developers are currently working on a Debian variant for the lightweight Linux Eee notebook by Asus.

The team includes Debian developer Ben Armstrong who considers the device idea for word processing on the road, as he states in his blog. Armstrong, who has bought an Eee PC for his wife, would like to run is favorite distribution, Debian, on the computer, instead of the preloaded Xandros Linux.

Based on postings by Debian users on the Eee user forum, Armstrong is looking to customize a Debian Live CD with an installer for the small footprint Asus machine. A project homepage has already been set up on a Debian server.

Armstrong has also load his sub-notebook with developer tools such as Subversion, Git, GCC and Meld, and is planning to work on the Debian port while on the road for his employer.
