KDE and Gnome: Details for Jamaica and Gran Canaria
Dates for lectures at the first Akademy extension, “Camp KDE”, (Jan 17 to 23, 2009) in Jamaica have been set. Dates for the first KDE-Gnome conference in Gran Canaria have also been agreed, (July 3 to 11, 2009) along with a location.
Presentation suggestions have been reviewed and selected, says a report from the Camp KDE organizers. 14 special KDE themed lectures will be held middle of January in Negril, a tourist resort on the west tip of Jamaica. Topics will include, “KDE and business software”, “Plasma and small formfactor devices” and “Cmake”, to name a few. The lectures are planned for the Saturday and Sunday (Jan 17 and 18), with two days of informal discussions following, (“Bird of a feather discussions”) and another two days of joint programming (Hackathon).
Individual dates for Camp KDE, which defines itself as a biannual, time and place extension of the European based aKademy, can be found in an announcement on the KDE news page.
Meanwhile, KDE and Gnome's combined conference, the “Gran Canaria Desktop Summit”, has been set for one specific date. The event will take place shortly before the main holidays and will last a whole week (July 3 to 11, 2009). Organizers have placed information about the region, climate and administration of the Canary Islands on their fresh website. Probably a result of cooperation with the government of Gran Canaria, who is co-hosting the event.
