Linux.com Relaunched

The Linux Foundation recreates Linux.com as a "site for the community."

The Linux Foundation has relaunched the Linux.com website. According to Community Manager Brian Proffitt, Linux.com was redesigned to be more interactive; one of its main purposes is to be "for the community by the community."

Linux.com allows members to create LUGs or developer groups, add events to the Linux.com Calendar, get help with their Linux system in the Answers area, learn about new distros, and read product reviews. The web site now also lets members create their own tutorials and blogs.

Linux.com is rewarding contributions to the site with "Guru Points." As users gain points, they move toward the rank of "Ultimate Linux Guru." Annual awards and recognition will be given to the one "Ultimate Linux Guru," the top five contributors, and the top 50 contributors.

Not impressed

I am not impressed with the design neither, I actually quite dislike the orange colour. At least the content is good and that is what matters most.

Not bad, not great either

I have to nitpick about the design a little bit.

It's a slick design, but I'm confused by linux.com's branding. It's spent months on Twitter going with a blue theme, and now it went with orange for the logo.

I know, I know, ultimately not that big of a deal. I do wish they would have thought that out a bit more. It doesn't look like a site dedicated to linux, it looks (ironically, considering my complaint) a web design blog.

Still, much better than previous incantations. I'll give it a B-.
