Novell File Management Suite Optimizes Storage

Jan 25, 2010

Novell has come up with an integrated software solution that makes data storage easier and more economical to manage.

The File Management Suite is intended for environments with unstructured user data. The suite consists of three components. A Storage Manager automates repeated processes, such as moving, copying, archiving, and purging. Dynamic File Services store files according to guidelines so that less-used files are moved to lower-cost secondary storage. Finally, the File Reporter takes over the reporting function and also checks file permissions.
The tools do their work based on policies and get information about file ownership from list services such as Novell's Edirectory or Microsoft's Active Directory. The File Management Suite costs around US$38 per user, with the Storage Manager and File Reporter available separately.
The suite is available for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and Windows 2003/2008. Novell dedicates its <link href="http://www.novell.com/products/file-management-suite" target="_blank">product page</link> to a podcast and an evaluation version download.
