OpenSuse Hack Week III Winners Announced

OpenSuse community manager Joe “Zonker” Brockmeier today announced the winners of the 3rd OpenSuse Hack Week. Prizes were given in three categories; best performance in multi-project cooperation, the Penguin Award for the most original project and an award for the best project per se.

The OpenSuse Hack Week has a great tradition in Nuremberg, the German hometown of Suse. One week of the year, the Suse developers can relax from a strict regime and participate in other projects that grab their attention. The Hack Week took place from August 25. to 29. and for the first time external developers were invited.

The prize for the best project was shared by Jakub Steiner and web-developers Robert Lihm and Andreas Demmer. Steiner changed the proprietary Cholla font that was once Suse standard and today is still present in the OpenSuse Logo. Lihm and Demmer were awarded the prize for the new OpenSuse startpage.

The Penguin Award for the most original project was picked up by Lynn Bendixsen and Jason Douglas for their work on a driver update for para-virtualized Windows installations. The best performance prize for multi-project cooperation went to Andrew Wafaa, who caught the whole of the Hack Week on video.
