Release Candidate Pardus 2009.1

Jan 12, 2010

The Pardus team has published the first release candidate of its Linux distribution with the slightly confusing version number 2009.1.

Pardus 2009.1 is a major update of the Pardus 2009 version released back in July. New is the change to Hybrid ISOs, used by practically all current distros, for the installation from CD, DVD and USB drives.

Pardus 2009.1 builds on the kernel 2.6.31.9 with a KDE 4.3.4 default desktop. Further vital program versions include Firefox 3.5.7, OpenOffice 3.1.1, Gimp 2.6.7 and X Server 1.6.5.

As is usual with Pardus, the two versions Kurulan (installation image) and Calisan (Live CD) are available. Kurulan comes with a special ISO image with numerous localizations. Details about the distribution, developed by the Turkish National Research Institute for Electronic and Cryptology (TÜBITAK/UEKAE) can be found in this article.

  • Pardus versions numbers.

Pardus version numbers are not so confusing. Pardus 2009 was a new developed line.
Pardus 2009.1 and later Pardus 2009.2 mark thats a updated version. A sort of "Service pack 1" and "service pack 2" you could say.

Now you got Pardus 2011. And its a new developed line.
Soon you will have Pardus 2011.1 (in a few weeks)

I would like to see a article or review of Pardus 2011 since they got a international/English version to:
