Slamd64: Slackware for 64-bit

Feb 03, 2009

Fred Emmott has released the Slackware-based 64-bit distro with 2.6.27.7 kernel.

Slamd64 is an unofficial port from Slackware for 64-bit systems. The distro comes with 32-bit libraries, enabling problem free installation of most Slackware packages and proprietary components such as 3D drivers, and thanks to nspluginwrapper, Slamd64 also provides support for 32-bit browser plugins.

Some of the changes in version 12.2 are purely cosmetic. Kernel 2.6.27.7, GCC 4.2.4, Apache 2.2.10 with SSL support and PHP 5.2.8 are all part of the package. Users can choose between the KDE 3.5.10 and the XFCE 4.4.3 desktops with Firefox in version 3.0.5 also included. The Slamd64 download is available here.
