Trolltech Greenphone Sell-Out

Oct 22, 2007

Norwegian developers Trolltech have sold out their entire inventory of Linux Greenphones. This is the end of Trolltech’s excursion into the world of hardware.

"Back to the roots", that is, back to software development is the new tack that Trolltech will be taking. Trolltech will be looking to help developers who joined the Greenphone adventure to migrate to compatible platforms. Trolltech views its mission of creating a development platform for cellular radio applications on Linux as fulfilled. “The success of Greenphone is due in large part to the void it filled in the market by providing an open phone platform that could be used for experimentation and to build innovate applications,” says Benoit Schillings, Trolltech CTO.

Trolltech will continue to support the Qtopia Greenphone community with new software releases in the coming months. In addition, community developers and organizations looking for phone hardware on which to develop Qtopia applications, Trolltech recommends the Neo1973 from FIC and OpenMoko.
