Adobe Updates Reader and Acrobat to Address Security Problems
Adobe has put its attention to solving the vulnerability problems in its PDF Reader and Acrobat software.
Eight serious security problems hit Reader and Acrobat version 9.2, including the Linux version of Reader. Adobe confirmed that security holes allowed prepared PDFs to pull in malicious code. The method worked partly only for attackers of Windows systems, but Linux systems were also affected with privilege escalation. System crashes because of memory corruption also added to possible outcome of attacks.
Adobe fixed the problem with an update to version 9.3. Equally affected Reader 8.17 was also updated to 8.2. Linux users of version 8.17 should upgrade to 8.2, but be aware that support for Reader 8.x has ended. The vulnerabilities and update possibilities are described in Adobe's Security Bulletin).
