Big Losses at Sun as Sales Fall

Apr 29, 2009

Following the announcement of the takeover by Oracle, Sun Microsystems' latest financial report shows a drastic drop in sales and a huge rise in company losses.

In the third quarter of 2008, Sun booked a sales volume of 3.2 billion dollars. This year that was down to $2.6 billion.

Comparisons to the second quarter of last year also prove disappointing for the company. A loss of 201 million dollars represents a dramatic tailspin compared to $34 million losses for the same period in 2008. Sun closed its last financial period with a registered loss of 209 million US dollars.

Sun Microsystems are to be taken over by the databank specialists Oracle, who will pay $7.4 billion dollars for the struggling company.
