Canonical to Offer Junior Admin Certification for Ubuntu 10.04
Canonical is planning its own certification for Ubuntu 10.04 Long-Term Service edition.
The target group for the totally independent certification called "junior level" are admins who should be capable of deploying Ubuntu in their office environment. Basic Linux knowledge is a prerequisite, but experience as a sysadmin is required.
The certification program will take off as soon as Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is released. First exams are planned for October. Canonical seeks test giving participants, with knowledge of English and a broadband connection. The exam itself won't be multiple-choice, but will instead be Web-based live labs. The fees are expected to run between US$ 300 and US$ 350. Further details about training for the exam should be available in May.
An additional Ubuntu Certified Professional (UCP) distinction is also available in conjunction with the Linux Professional Institute (LPI). Candidates must have achieved the LPIC-1 level and take a special Canonical exam.
