Image-Conscious: Oracle Releases Template Builder
Template Builder as of now is a permanent part of Oracle's JeOS mini-Linux and produces images, known as templates, for Oracle VM.
The VM Template Builder uses the Just Enough Operating System (JeOS) to produce minimally equipped image templates for Oracle's VM virtual server platform. Developers and ISVs can use a GUI to generate these pre-installed and pre-configured image templates that run on Oracle VM. According to Oracle's vision, these templates can reduce the ballast in a virtual OS in that only the minimally necessary packages are present.
The Linux-based JeOS and Oracle VM are both under GPL and Oracle's commercial support. Downloads are available from Oracle's E-Delivery site upon registration.
Oracle VM provides a virtualized x86 server, for example, for its own or Red Hat's Linux, and its databases and Fusion middleware. The Xen-based virtualization software saw its first light of day the end of 2007.
