KDE Default DeskTop for openSUSE
The openSUSE community has had its request granted. Version 11.2 of the Linux distribution will come with KDE as default desktop.
The alternative Gnome, will remain an equal option, with no loss in quality, says Michael Loeffler in his announcement on the project's mailing list. The KDE default setting refers to the radio button, where Gnome will continue to be available. Until now, there was no preset desktop, and Gnome was top of the select list.
The official request for the return of KDE as default desktop came from newly elected board member Frank Karlitscheck. As we reported, a recent survey pronounced KDE the desktop of choice for two thirds of openSUSE users. Gnome appeared to be prioritized after Novell's takeover of SUSE.
