Knoppix 6.2 Based on LXDE
Klaus Knopper has updated his Live Linux Knoppix to 6.2 and chose LXDE as the desktop environment. Also included is ADRIANE, the talking menu system for the sight-impaired, in version 1.2
The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE) in Knoppix distinguishes itself with shorter start times and less CPU and RAM than other desktop environments. Because it uses the Gtk2 toolkit, LXDE works with accessibility software such as the Orca screenreader.
The reduced space on the Live CD version allows for remastering with added software. The DVD edition of Knoppix 6.2 includes, next to LXDE, the GNOME 2.28 and KDE 4.3.3 desktops.
The Linux Kernel included is version 2.6.31.6 and X.org is in version 7.4. Knopper also accelerated the boot process through parallelization.
Knoppix 6.2 is available for download in a few versions: as CD or DVD, with default English or German and with the LXDE or ADRIAN desktop. Further boot options are described in the release notes.
