Linux on the Catwalk
The Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo this week will host the performance of a Linux-based robot that runs on the hard real time ART-Linux distro.
According to a report from linuxdevices.com, a gynoid will for the first time be on the catwalk at the Japan Fashion Week. Developed by the Human Robotics Group (HRG), the robot stands 5 feet, 2 inches (155 cm), weighs 95 pounds (43 kg) and consists of 38 motors with 8 in the head which enable the robot to make some pleasant expressions. The model can walk, talk and bow.
Inside is ART-Linux, (Advanced Real Time), a robotics- focused, real-time 2.6 kernel, licensed under GPL and available for x86 systems and the SH4 Hitachi platform. ART-Linux has not only been used in the HRP-4C christened Japanese girl, but is featured in many Japanese Government sponsored HRG projects.
