NVIDIA 180.22 Drivers Support OpenGL 3.0 and More
The NVIDIA proprietary drivers for Linux are now out of beta phase and into a stable version. The new generation includes a number of new features.
The newly supported graphics chips for NVIDIA include a few GeForce series 9 cards. Next to OpenGL 3.0, the drivers now offer a Video Decode and Presentation API for UNIX (VDPAU) that allows delegating video decoding and post-processing to the graphics card GPUs, a function especially welcome in the science field.
Developers will also be pleased with NVIDIA's integration of the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) in version 2.1 (beta) to help in performance optimization. Glyph cache is activated by default to accelerate graphics rendering. The new NVIDIA also fixes numerous bugs related to a use of modified xorg.conf data and improved the driver stability, including support of the current Linux kernel.
Linux versions for testing of the NVIDIA 180.22 drivers are available for 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
