New Additions to the Linux Mobile Foundation
Montavista and Broadcom have both joined the Limo (Linux Mobile) Foundation. The industrial group promotes the use of Linux on mobile phones.
The Limo initiative was founded early in 2007 by Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone. The foundation is working on a standardized Linux platform for mobile phones with an open programming interface that supports the integration of Open Source software.
The embedded specialist Montavista intends to contribute its know-how from the development of its cellphone operating system Mobilinux, which is currently deployed on 35 million devices according to the manufacturer.
Chip supplier Broadcom will be looking to contribute to the Limo Foundation working groups in future. The semiconductor company is interested in establishing a Linux platform based on its own BCM2153 and BCM2820 processors.
