OpenRespect: Reflections from the Founder
"I have made some mistakes, and I have always believed that mistakes deserve sincere apologies.” -- OpenRespect founder, Jono Bacon
OpenRespect, “was formed to provide a common place in which we can remind ourselves that irrespective of our views on openness and freedom, respect should be at the foundation of how we communicate.” -- OpenRespect Website
In the weeks since Jono Bacon announced the OpenRespect project, it has been met with mixed reaction. Both Bacon and the project have been openly criticized with the majority of the those criticisms focused on three areas, 1) that Bacon stated that the Debian and Fedora project leaders supported the idea, 2) that OpenRespect is a project to shield Ubuntu/Canonical from criticisms, and 3) elements of hypocrisy due to Bacon’s involvement with LugRadio.
Bacon addresses these issues today as he offers apologies, the source and motivation behind project, as well as thoughts on growing up and maturing.
More information on OpenRespect can be found here. Bacon’s full blog post can be found here.
