Oracle Introduces RedPatch
Oracle creates a new Git repository for tracking Linux kernel changes.
The repository is called RedPatch, and according to the announcement from the Ksplice team, it contains the source for all of the changes that Red Hat makes to their kernel.
The RedPatch repository site says the aim of the RedPatch project is to “take all of the source code changes of the Red Hat kernel from release to release and to break them up into smaller, standalone changes, using upstream commits whenever possible.” The developers have been doing this work internally to create Ksplice updates and decided that others might benefit from it, the announcement said.
The Ksplice team also says, “This is the same policy we provide for Oracle Linux and the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK). Users can freely access the source, view the commit logs and easily identify the changes that are relevant to their environments.”
