PC-BSD 8.0 with KDE 4.3.5
PC-BSD, the FreeBSD-based free desktop platform, is available in version 8.0.
The new PC-BSD release is based on FreeBSD 8.-Release-P2 and as a preinstalled desktop environment brings along KDE 4.3.5. Further applications are installable via PC-BSD's own PBI system, among them Firefox 3.5.7, OpenOffice 3.1.1, Opera 10.10 and VLC 1.0.4. Other available components are the extensive FreeBSD Ports Tree and System Source. Drivers with 3D acceleration are available for NVIDIA cards, including on AMD64 architecture.
The DVD image boots as a Live system, with the installer starting with the PC-BSD or FreeBSD option. Further details are in the release notes.
ISO images for the i386 and AMD64 architectures come in various installation methods for download. PC-BSD developers would be pleased to have users support their work by purchasing their official CDs or T-shirts.
