Parted Magic 2.0 with New Visparted Tool
The Parted Magic Linux Live System gives users the ability to manipulate hard disk partitions in various formats. Version 2.0 is the first to rely on the Visparted GUI tool .
The program is a fork of the graphical Gparted 0.3.3 tool. In addition to the functionality provided by its predecessors, Visparted supports point and click deletion and mounting of partitions. On mounting, a file manager is additionally launched to display the contents of the mounted directories. According to its makers, Visparted supports the Ext2, Ext3,FAT32, HFS+, JFS, NTFS, Reiser4, and XFS filesystems among others. A table on the Parted homepage provides full details.
The system uses kernel 2.6.23.13 and only takes 40MB of space meaning that the bootable image will fit on a business card-sized CD. To save space, Busybox provides the functionality of various Unix commands; this said, Ddrescue and Cfdisk are included as separate utilities. In combination with Dropbear SSH, the XFCE desktop and the Firefox browser, Parted Magic is a full-fledged minimal system for partitioning, data recovery and Web research.
The Download page includes images for mini CDs, USB sticks and for network-based boot via PXE. The project is asking satisfied customers to donate to the project via Paypal.
