QT Axes Jambi: Possible Future as Community Project?
The coming March release of QT Jambi will probably be the last. QT Software will discontinue support for the Java version.
Jambi is a QT port to the Java programming language. With the release of version 4.5 in March, development will officially end with QT Software concentrating its resources on the cross platform C++ Toolkit QT.
Following the release of version 4.5.0_01 in March 2009, developers will maintain Jambi for one year, and in a move designed to encourage the community to continue with the further development, it will then be made available under the LGLP license on the QT website. QT Software is promising to host and maintain a community-driven Jambi project.
Paralell to the announcement, QT Software released a Technology Preview of QT Jambi 4.5.0_01 complete with a Tar.gz-archive. In addition, a special mailing list will be created to collect feedback on the current version: qt-jambi-interest@trolltech.com.
