Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab

Android 2.2-powered, Flash-enabled, 7-inch touch screen.

Samsung hinted at the device in a teaser video last week, but now the company has officially announced its Galaxy Tab, an Android 2.2-powered tablet/smartphone hybrid. The device made its official debut at IFA 2010.

 

Similar to the Dell Streak, the Galaxy tab splits the difference between tablet and smartphone by featuring 3G HSUPA connectivity, along with a robust web browser, email, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, and full access to the Android Marketplace.

The device is powered by a Cortex A8 1.0GHz processor and features a 7-inch 1024x600 TFT-LCD display. It supports SD cards up to 32GB. The Galaxy Tab also features Samsung's own e-reader and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera that is capable of video conference over 3G. Robust video playback is built into the Galaxy Tab, as XviD, H.263, and DivX playback is supported into industry standard MPEG4 and H.246.

No firm release date has been given for the Galaxy Tab, but is slated to release in Q4 2010 in the US, but no date for Europe has been set yet. Pricing remains unannounced.
