Sheep-Throwing Marsupial in the "Yo Frankie" Game
If you've ordered the DVD, you're probably already busy throwing sheep and beating up rats in a lovely virtual countryside.
You're now Frankie the sugar glider (an Australian marsupial with the Latin name petaurus breviceps), familiar to many from the "Big Buck Bunny" Blender video. In that animated short, Frankie and two of his playmates had angered poor Big Buck to no end.
After the Blender Institute released Big Buck to show what the Blender software was capable of, they followed it up with the 3-D "Yo Frankie" game that they produced using Crystal Space and the Blender Game Engine. The core team had met in Amsterdam and spent the next half year developing the platform-independent game, financed through advance orders. Other sponsors beside Blender Institute and the Crystal Space Team were also involved in the Amsterdam game-making.
The DVD, which is now available and costs about $43, comes in two variants, one with Crystal Space Engine (CSE) and one with Blender Game Engine (BGE). The content comes under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licensing and the game was created exclusively using open source software. Best hurry to order the game now, or wait a bit longer to get it for free.
Meanwhile you can learn more about the game's background and logic from the Blender wiki. Also see the YouTube video and view the gallery of further "Yo Frankie" screenshots and wallpaper.

Sheep-Throwing Marsupial in the "Yo Frankie" Game
What are the system requirements? I think that I would like to give this game a try.
I'm running openSuSE 11.0, H-P Presario V6000 Notebook, 2 GB RAM, and a soon to be replaced 160 GB HDD, with a 320GB one.
This game looks so cool, and I'm not a gamer!
