Tizen 2.0 is an open source, standards-based software platform for devices such as smartphones, tablets, netbooks, in-vehicle infotainment devices, and smart TVs. According to the website, Tizen provides a robust and flexible environment based on HTML5, and the Tizen SDK and API can be used to create applications that run across multiple device sectors.
Highlights of the most recent Tizen release include: an enhanced web framework providing the latest HTML5/W3C API support and web UI framework, including full-screen and multi-window support. Tizen 2.0 includes additional Tizen device APIs, such as Bluetooth and NFC support, and access to the device’s calendar, call history, and messaging subsystems. According to the announcement, the Web Runtime framework supports new configuration elements for specifying the required features and privileges and provides the basic runtime environment for NPRuntime plugins.
Tizen developers are encouraged to attend the Tizen Developer Conference (https://www.tizen.org/events/tizen-developer-conference/2013), which will be held in May 2013 in San Francisco. The Tizen project is part of the Linux Foundation and is governed by a Technical Steering Group.
