VirtualBox 7.2 Has Arrived
With early support for Linux kernel 6.17 and other new additions, VirtualBox 7.2 is a must-update for users.
Okay, people, you know the drill: It's time to update. In this case, it's VirtualBox, and this time it's a major update with plenty of new additions, polish, and bug fixes.
The latest iteration of the virtual machine manager not only adds initial support for kernel 6.17, but it also improves the Linux Guest Additions support for both Oracle Linux and RHEL 10 guests, as well as Windows 11/ARM guests.
VirtualBox 7.2 also brings improvement to the vboxvideo kernel module for Linux guests. On top of that, you get the enabling of video decoding acceleration for Linux hosts (when the 3D option is used). It also fixes a swapped scan code issue and a VBoxClient start failure for Linux kernels older than 2.6.
There have been a few minor GUI tweaks, such as improved Preferences and Settings pages, better support for keyboard LEDs, and a reorganization of some bits within the hamburger menu.
You'll also get enhancements to open source NVMe storage emulations, better handling of DNS servers, unattended installation support for Oracle Linux, and the usual bug fixes.
You can read about the changes in the official VirtualBox 7.2 changelog and download the binary installer from the official site.
