In California, two major competitors currently offer Internet access to private households: AT&T with broadband DSL and Comcast with broadband Internet via the TV cable. A DSL or cable modem picks up data off the wire, and a router connects the machines on the home network with the Internet. Both providers have their advantagesand disadvantages.
