If you need to outline an essay, make a list, or write something highly structured like a CSS file for a website, then look no further than the command line, especially if you’re already comfortable with the Vim text editor.

Vim Outliner, a Vim plugin, offers the same capabilities as a desktop tool, delivered entirely by keyboard shortcuts. Vim Outliner is packaged by major distributions, but requires configuration first. To start, you need to install the Vim Package Manager, which should be a dependency but, in Debian and its derivatives, at least, is only recommended.
