Linux Mint 13 – Cinnamon Edition

Article from Issue 142/2012

This month’s DVD lets you test the latest release from the popular Linux Mint project. Linux Mint 13 “Maya” is based on Ubuntu 12.04 “Precise Pangolin” and thus is compatible with the Ubuntu repositories.

Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition uses Cinnamon, a fork of the Gnome Shell based on the Mint Gnome Shell Extensions (MGSEs), as its default interface rather than Ubuntu’s Unity desktop or the Gnome Shell. The many features of Cinnamon include desktop effects, a movable panel equipped with a main menu, launchers, a window list and system tray, applets that appear on the panel, and a settings editor for easy customization.
