Systers recently announced the 2008 Anita Borg Systers Pass It On Grant recipients on their website. Applications are now being accepted for the next round of recipients. According to their site: The Anita Borg Systers Pass-It-On Grants honor Anita Borg’s desire to create a network of technical women helping one another. The grants, funded by donations from the Systers Online Community, are intended as means for women established in technological fields to support women seeking their place in the fields of technology. The grants are called “Pass-It-On” grants because they come with the moral obligation to “pass on” the benefits gained from the grant. Application information...

The USA Today site posted an interesting article, called "'Geek Girl' helps keep Mozilla safe in scary times," about Window Snyder, Mozilla's 'chief security something-or-other'. I see a lot about women in technology needing more mentors, so I was happy to see that Window's dear ol' mom taught her to program Basic when she was only five.

Jean Bartik enters the Computer History Museum's "Hall of Fellows"

Today, maddog blogged that Linus Torvalds and Bob Metcalfe will be inducted into the Computer History Museum's Hall of Fellows this October. The museum, located in Mountain View, California, has an impressive list of exhibits, including a collection of computer marketing brochures, early computers and vintage PCs, and the Babbage Engine. Maddog sent me some exciting news for women in computing, too: Jean Bartik also will be indoctrinated as a new fellow. Jean Bartik, an ENIAC programmer, already enjoys a spot in the WITI Hall of Fame. According to the WITI site: The first programmers started out as "Computers." Our magazine offices are only about a block away from the Lawrence Journal-World and The World Company headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas. This morning, as I sipped my coffee and scanned the local paper's website, I noticed an article about the Django Software Foundation. The Django homepage describes it as "... a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design."
