Bug Holds Up Ubuntu 10.04, But Not for Long
The Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx release planned for April was held up by a few hours due to a critical bugfix.
The CD and DVD images for Lucid Lynx were already ready to go April 27 when the last test revealed that a bug was allowing only Ubuntu in the dual-boot grub bootloader. The initially critical declared bug was to be resolved by a zero-day update, in that a simple sudo update-grub command should take care of it. However, because the bug coincided with another late-appearing migration-assistant bug, the Ubuntu team decided to rebuild the media for the release.
While the CD images for Lucid are being rebuilt, the DVD images might take a bit longer. The Ubuntu version will get immediate attention, with the Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Mythbuntu versions to follow. The ISO image files will undergo numerous tests, which might also take some time, after which downloads from the mirrors should become available.
While the CD image regeneration might take six to eight additional hours, the DVDs will likely extend beyond the deadline set for April, so it looks more like beginning of May. It's currently unclear whether Canonical will release the CD images still today or there will be a staggered release of the CDs (today) followed by the DVDs and further Ubuntu derivatives.
