Lindy USB 3.0 Drives and Docking Station for Linux
USB 3.0 promises up to 5 Gbit data transfers. Manufacturer Lindy now brings two SATA hard drive enclosures and a hard drive docking/cloning station with USB 3.0 to the marketplace.
The new Lindy hard drive enclosures are for 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives, respectively. The 3.5" drive enclosure is in brushed aluminum. The hard disks are accessible by opening the aperture; tools are not necessary, according to the manufacturer.
The docking and cloning station accommodates both disk sizes. Lindy describes it as hotplug capable. The devices differ in their power supplies. The docking station and the 3.5" enclosure have an AC adapter, while the 2.5" is powered over the USB 3.0 cable. Users without a USB 3.0 interface will need the additional AC adapter to power the unit; an adapter port is already provided. All three devices are backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1.
The 3.5" SATA enclosure costs $125, the 2.5" enclosure costs $105 and the docking station costs $89. Lindy promises a driverless installation under Linux as of 2.6.31 and Windows (XP/Vista/7). The devices should be available immediately.
