Open-Xchange: More Components Released under GPL

Feb 15, 2008

Following the server component, groupware specialist Open-Xchange has now released administrative and installation tools under thee GPLv2.

The GPL-licensed components are referred to as the Open-Xchange Community Edition which offers email, to-do, contact and task management features. The Ajax front-end, which acts as a browser component is still released under a Creative Commons License (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5).

The new license gives corporations the ability to deploy Open-Xchange. The Open-Xchange company earns money on system maintenance, support and Microsoft Outlook integration. The latter is a popular feature of the Open-Xchange solution. The Community Edition can be downloaded.
