Qt 4.5 Marches Forward with First Release Candidate

Feb 06, 2009

Nokia issued its first release candidate for Qt 4.5 that includes, among other things, translucent widgets.

Since KDE developers gave a preview of some of the enhancements in Qt 4.5 at the Akademy 2008 conference in Belgium, Nokia is now ready to release the first candidate, which is under GPL. The announcement also mentions that the LGPL version of the C++ framework should be ready by the final release in March 2009.

Among the most important enhancements are faster Qt 4.5 applications, website rendering using WebKit and Mac OS Cocoa 64-bit support. The version also includes the new Qt Script Debugger and promises translucent widgets under X11, thanks to the ARGB color model. Not least of all was work done on GTK+ integration.

The Qt website has more details on what's new in Qt 4.5.
