Linux Developer Platform for Wireless Terminal Devices
Navicron from Finland has just announced its Fusion developer platform which gives enterprises the ability to build wireless mobile and embedded devices.
The developer platform comprises a hardware platform and a software package. Navicron says that the platform is suitable for developing smart phones, vehicle navigation systems, and mobile surf stations (Internet tablets).
The software bundle comprises a Linux operating system, a Gtk user interface and Python as the programming language. A development package with Open Source tools helps to facilitate integration of the applications included with the bundle. Some themes and aids for developing further designs are included with the package. The language tool which translates and displays Chinese characters also looks useful. An integrated remote access server developed by Navicron helps customers access the applications on the mobile device remotely.
The Finnish vendors also have a PCB as a reference implementation: customers can choose the components and the design. The hardware includes a 3.5 inch TFT display with 18-bit color depth and a resoluation of 640 x 480 pixels. Navicron does not go into great detail with its description of the components, however, if you are interested, you can always watch the video that introduces the platform.
